TUNIS, Tunisia—The United Nations attempted to step up pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime on Thursday, naming top international diplomat Kofi Annan as an envoy to Syria and targeting top Syrian officials for "gross human-rights violations."
The U.N. efforts came on the eve of a meeting in Tunisia of the self-styled "Friends of Syria" group that will bring together Syrian opponents to Mr. Assad with some 70 nations and organizations. The group, which was formed to address Syria's crisis outside the U.N., is expected to hear Syrian opposition pleas for military aid—one the U.S. has shown no sign of entertaining.
One of the greatest tragedy among Dalit movement or Post Ambedkar politics in the state of Maharastra is the notorious divisions among Republican Party of India, the very political wing Babashaheb Ambedkar created during his power house play days. These RPI leaders and members had gone to an extent to sleep with enemies and caste virulent Shiv Sena, the Hyena among Indian communities, an arrogant, divisive and extremist regional political party of Mumbai. The Athvale group, one of those splintered 50 division of RPI party has even joined hands with this hindu caste extremists Shiv Sena most recently, such act will not be committed even by an insane or schizoid individual, as the whole world knows the reputation of extremist shiv sena party and it's leaders. Athvale and his members had already sleeping together with dangerous sena, this only makes how terrirble the RPI party has became in the recent years.
For years there was no possible light at the end of tunnel in this splintered RPI contaminted Maharastra, even the BSP failed in the past attempts, but it is all changing now, it looks like the BSP run by Mayawati and her party members have figured out the methods and means to help Maharastra get rid of RPI party, for the first time BSP is making great progress in Maharastra, while it is not clear if the credit can go to the whole community or the young generation with whom I elobaretly discuss about Maharastra politics, almost 98% of the young Dalit Maharastrian I interacted expressed their anger and frustration about RPI, at the same time laid their trust on Mayawatiji's BSP, the result is showing up right now as we write and read about...............things are changing for good in Maharastra......those who do not follow and adhere to Dr.Ambedkar's path and principles must be shown the door and be booted out, that is exactly is happening now..

BSP emerges as an alternative to RPIs in Vidarbha pollsPradip Kumar Maitra, Hindustan Times Nagpur, February 19, 201 The increasing might of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the virtual fall of Republican Party of India (RPI) in its stronghold in Vidarbha, particularly in Nagpur have raised many eyebrows in the region after the local bodies’ elections. Nagpur has been the citadel of RPI where DrBabasaheb Ambedkarconverted to Buddhism in 1956 but the BSP has dealt a severe blow to their vote bank in the recent elections.BSP earned 12 seats in the Nagpur Municipal Corporations alone while 6 seats in the neighbouring Amravati municipal corporation and their candidates finished second in 30 wards, giving a threat to the RPI politicians. As blows were rained on S. Vellaiyan, the 40-year-old victim, the other residents watched helplessly. Shortly afterwards, he was taken to the stone quarry owned by T.S.P. Durai, also known as Palaniyandi, along with another quarry worker, Veerappan. There, they were forced to swallow human excreta in the presence of fellow quarry workers, including Vellaiyan's wife, Bhoopathi, says a complaint lodged with the police. The quarry owner allegedly recorded the obnoxious scene on his cellphone. Vellaiyan's nine-year-old daughter, V. Vijayalaksmi, a Standard III student at the government school in the village, was also at the quarry. She could not speak coherently when she tried to recall the incident. Clearly, it will take a long time for her to recover from the trauma.
